Barricade Timeline

June 3, 1832
Evening: Thenardier et al. attempt to burglarize the house in the Rue Plumet, and are deterred by Eponine. Cosette informs Marius of her father's plans to leave Paris; he chalks his address on the wall for her, and promises to visit again at nine p.m. on the 5th.

June 4, 1832
Morning Valjean finds the address on the wall, and is perturbed. Eponine acquires boy's clothing.
4 p.m. Eponine sends a message ("Remove") to Valjean in the Champ de Mars. He is further perturbed and goes home to tell Cosette that they leave that night. She writes a note to Marius, and gives it to Eponine to deliver.
M. Mabeuf sells the last of his books.
Evening Marius calls on M. Gillenormand. They part less than amicably. Valjean and Cosette spend the night in the Rue de l'Homme Armé.

June 5, 1832 [Lamarque's funeral]
2 a.m. Marius arrives home and goes to bed.
Morning Courfeyrac, Enjolras, Feuilly and Combeferre head out, having failed to recruit Marius.
9 a.m. Bossuet, Joly and Grantaire arrive at the Corinth.
9:30 a.m. Message from Enjolras reaches Bossuet, via the urchin Navet.
1 p.m. M. Mabeuf and Gavroche catch up with the Friends of the A B C.
Courfeyrac stops by home to pick up ammunition, and is accosted by Eponine.
2 p.m. They arrive in the Rue de la Chanvrerie and are hailed by Bossuet. Construction begins. Grantaire passes out.
Dusk Construction more or less complete. Prouvaire recites poetry.
Valjean discovers Cosette's note on her blotter, is yet more perturbed, and goes outside to think.
9 p.m. Marius arrives in the Rue Plumet, and finds the house deserted. Eponine, from hiding, directs him to the barricade.
Javert is exposed by Gavroche.
Gavroche is sent out to scout around.
Le Cabuc kills a hapless doorkeeper, and is promptly executed by Enjolras.
Marius approaches the barricade.
10:15 p.m. Enjolras and Combeferre hear Gavroche singing a warning, in time to alert the barricade for the first attack. Their flag is shot down; M. Mabeuf is killed in replacing it.
Municipal Guards breach the barricade; Bahorel killed, Prouvaire taken prisoner. Marius emerges from hiding and shoots two soldiers, thereby rescuing Courfeyrac and Gavroche, and is himself saved by Eponine. He scares off the rest of the soldiers by threatening to blow up the barricade.
They discover Prouvaire missing, and prepare to exchange Javert for him; but before they can make the offer they overhear Prouvaire's execution.
Late night Marius goes out to check the Rue Mondetour, and encounters Eponine. She gives him Cosette's note, and dies.
He writes a reply, as well as an ID in case of his death, and gives the former to Gavroche to deliver. Gavroche accepts the errand with an ill grace.
Midnight Gavroche finds Valjean in the Rue de l'Homme Arme, and gives him the note. Valjean reads it, and broods.
Enjolras advises two hours of sleep, and is cheerfully ignored. Feuilly carves a slogan in the wall to pass the time.

June 6, 1832
2 a.m. Head count; there are 37 of them left. Valjean dons National Guard uniform and heads for the barricade.
4 or 5 a.m. Enjolras goes out to look around, and returns with gloomy tidings. Dispute arises over which four men are to leave the barricade and go home. Pleas from Combeferre and Marius. Valjean arrives, saving the fifth man.
Enjolras delivers a mild peroration.
Dawn Preparation for the next attack. Brandy distributed. Cannon comes into play. Gavroche returns, and is given Javert's gun.
Enjolras kills the sergeant of artillery, over Combeferre's protests.
Valjean very neatly shoots down a mattress to protect the barricade.
Cosette wakes in the Rue de l'Homme Arme.
More demonstrations of Valjean's marksmanship.
Morning Enjolras, grim, is heard to mutter "Patria" in response to Bossuet's teasing. Second cannon arrives. Gavroche is killed while collecting cartridges. Marius and Combeferre go out to retrieve him.
Noon Fortification of Corinth, under the supervision of Enjolras and Feuilly. Valjean asks and receives permission to do away with Javert, leads him out to the Rue Mondetour, and frees him, firing a shot in the air.
Early afternoon Final assault. Deaths of Courfeyrac, Bossuet, Joly, Feuilly. Combeferre killed while assisting a wounded man. Enjolras covers the retreat into Corinth. Marius, vastly hurt, faints and is spirited away by Valjean.
Mid-afternoon Soldiers break into Corinth. Enjolras and Grantaire killed before a firing squad. The barricade taken.
